About ClaimNorth | Canadian Tax Guides
About

Taxes are confusing. We're fixing that.

ClaimNorth is an independent educational project that turns Canadian tax rules into plain language anyone can follow.

Our mission

Most tax guides are written for accountants, not people. We start from the opposite side: short sentences, no jargon, and every term explained the first time it appears.

ClaimNorth is an educational project — not a tax firm, not a government site, and not a sales funnel. We don't sell services or collect your tax details. We write guides, check them against official sources, and keep them current. That's the whole business model.

Our flagship topic is the part of the return most people get wrong or skip: employment expenses and Form T2200. But we cover the full journey — from filing your return to key deadlines — because the pieces only make sense together.

Editorial standards

We treat accuracy as the whole job. Here's how we work:

  • Checked against the source. Every figure, date, rate, form number, and line number is checked against canada.ca — or revenuquebec.ca for Quebec items — before it goes on the site.
  • Stamped and sourced. Every tax page shows "Last reviewed: September 25, 2026" and links the official pages behind it. See the resources page for the full list.
  • Honest about gaps. When the CRA hasn't published something yet — like the 2026-tax-year editions of T4044, T777, and T2200 — we mark it [VERIFY] instead of guessing.
  • Plain by default. Grade 8 reading level, Canadian spelling, and jargon explained on first use with a link to the glossary.
  • Independent. We are not affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency or any government agency, and we say so on every page that needs it.

Everything on this site is general information about Canadian personal tax. It is not tax advice, accounting advice, or legal advice. Tax rules change, and while we do our best to keep every page current and clearly dated, we can't promise every detail matches your situation.
